Written by and starring BMEG’s Katie Beckett, the production tells a story about what it means to be Indigenous in Australia today, drawing on Katie’s own memories from her childhood.

WHICH WAY HOME:

A road trip comedy 80,000 years in the making

Tash and her Dad are going on a road trip. Home to country, where the sky is higher and the world goes on forever.

It’s a long way from the wide streets and big old houses of Tash’s childhood. Two Black faces in a very white suburb. Dad still thinks he’s the king of cool, but he’s an old fella now. It’s time for Tash to take him home.

Cody ROSS

BMEG’s Cody Ross is in the award winning play, YOU GOT OLDER, By Clare Barron and Directed by Claudia Barrie. The show will be coming to KXT Theatre in July and Cody plays the role of Mac.

YOU GOT OLDER
Mae returns home to help take care of Dad and — maybe (a little) — herself. You Got Older is a tender and darkly comic new play about family, illness, and cowboys — and how to remain standing when everything you know comes crashing down around you.

“★★★★★ Critics’ Pick! Clare Barron’s extraordinary ‘You Got Older’ moved me as few new plays have. Like a great short story, it succeeds through details that…coalesce with a force all the stronger for their subtlety…there are moments in this play I know I won’t forget.” – Time Out- New York

“This terrific new play by Clare Barron…offers a hilarious and painfully affecting blend of oddball dialogue, beautifully observed family dynamics, and a preoccupation with the weird ways of the body… Barron’s special genius lies in the deep dividends she derives from small talk.” – The New Yorker

“[Barron’s] play… blends off-beat, sometimes raunchy comedy into a slowly fused drama…” – The New York Times

ENTER OPHELIA

A near drowned damsel steps into the spotlight – a gothic black comedy about secrets, madness and mansplaining

In a world of mad men and murdering uncles, drowning never felt so good. A woman wanders an empty castle, clutching rotting flowers – told what to do, where to stand, what to think. No one really listens to her, no one really sees her.

Enter Ophelia is a darkly funny gothic riff imagining a vastly different future for our drowned damsel.

Two of Melbourne’s most exciting indie theatre companies Essential Theatre and Three Birds Theatre come together to present the world premiere of a thrilling new exploration of femininity, isolation and silliness.

“Essential Theatre delivers the gravity and depth behind the words superbly, and electrify their modest space.  Shakespeare would be proud. ★★★★”

-Edinburgh Guide 2017

“Three Birds Theatre .. Sharp as a razor, very witty, very funny and beautifully directed with much visual humour”

-Stage Whispers 2016
