Rod Ainsworth
Rod Ainsworth is a playwright, librettist and academic. He has been commissioned by Opera Queensland (Tumbulgum and the Countdown to Midnight on the First Day between Now and Forever), JUTE Theatre (The Forgetting, Roland Thring and the Year all his Christmases Came at Once) and Creative Regions (It All Begins with Love, The Extraordinary Fall of Wheezer Hennessy, Loretta). His versatility in form has taken him from community and placemaking projects to children’s, social impact, regional and opera. As well as his work as a writer, Rod’s career in the industry as producer, director and executive leader means he has a long experience as a creative collaborator across all facets of the arts.
Rod holds a MA (Research) in creative writing and is currently a PhD candidate in creative practice with a focus on the opera libretto and its relevance to place and environment in Australia. He is a regular writer on the arts and presents on arts and cultural matters at conferences and festivals. His work has been a Finalist for the APRA/AMCOS Art Music Awards and shortlisted for both the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award and the Queensland Theatre Company Comalco/Making Contact Young Playwrights’ Award.
