Aliyah Knight

Aliyah is a Sydney-based actor, writer & director living and working on Gadigal land. They are passionate about telling queer and diverse stories, and representing complex and flawed individuals in their work.

Aliyah graduated from AFTRS with a Bachelor of Arts in Screen Production in 2024, having specialised in writing, directing and design. Their final film Consume is a queer horror short about the intersection of religious trauma and internalised homophobia.

In 2023, Aliyah was selected as one of 20 young writers nationwide for ATYP’s esteemed National Studio program. As a result, their queer coming-of-age play Four Legs Good was commissioned for ATYP’s Intersection Festival, to be held at the Rebel Theatre in 2024.

They are currently in development for their first full-length play Snake-face, a dark-comedy monologue modern day adaptation of the myth of Medusa.

Aliyah has worked as a note-taker with Roadshow Rough Diamond, and is keen to venture deeper into the world of TV. They are currently developing Hung Up, a comedy-drama pilot about four best friends who come together to raise a 9-year-old girl after her mother (the fifth member of the group) dies in an accident.

Aliyah has experience acting in commercials, short films, music videos and theatre. Having graduated from the Theatre Studies stream of the VCA secondary school in 2020, they have gone on to act in a number of AFTRS productions, music videos for Sydney-based band, and have recently featured in a TVC for Fujifilm.
